First, the images of the building are registered as database by the questionnaire. Next, the images of the objective building are compared with the degree of matching in image databases, and the building with high synthetic matching degree is retrieved. This system could get a good retrieval result. Moreover, image processing was done, and image databases are trained by neural network from the amount of characteristics of the image, and the retrieval system by image processing was examined. The system uses a generalised object-oriented approach for information modelling of physical state variables from measurements and simulations by sets of tensor objects and is implemented platform-independently as a Web application. This leads to a more flexible handling of measurement and simulation information in distributed and interdisciplinary engineering projects based on the concept of information sharing. The potential and advantages of Web-based information systems like ‘Turtle’ are described for one selected application example: a measurement programme dealing with the physical limnology of Lake Constance. A1 - Sunkpho, J. T1 - Issues in delivering it systems to field users N2 - IT support for field personnel is starting to appear on bridge inspection sites, construction sites, and on the manufacturing floor. ENR magazine now regularly advertises palm computing-based systems for recording data on a construction site. This support can, and should, take on many forms and functions and needs to be carefully designed and evaluated like any other important tool used in the field. With careful design and implementation, IT devices for the field should have tremendous impact on the productivity of field personnel. If the devices are not carefully designed to take account of the field context and the abilities and preferences of the field personnel, field workers will not use these tools.
