The phantom node method is used to model the crack in the continuum region and a molecular statics model is used near the crack tip. To ensure self-consistency in the bulk, a virtual atom cluster is used to model the material of the coarse scale. The coupling between the coarse scale and fine scale is realized through ghost atoms. The ghost atom positions are interpolated from the coarse scale solution and enforced as boundary conditions on the fine scale. The fine scale region is adaptively enlarged as the crack propagates and the region behind the crack tip is adaptively coarsened. An energy criterion is used to detect the crack tip location. The triangular lattice in the fine scale region corresponds to the lattice structure of the (111) plane of an FCC crystal. The Lennard-Jones potential is used to model the atom-atom interactions. The method is implemented in two dimensions. The results are compared to pure atomistic simulations; they show excellent agreement. 19 Computational Mechanics 1129 1148 10.1007/s00466-013-0952-6 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3335 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Budarapu, Pattabhi Ramaiah; Gracie, Robert; Yang, Shih-Wei; Zhuang, Xiaoying; Rabczuk, Timon Efficient Coarse Graining in Multiscale Modeling of Fracture Efficient Coarse Graining in Multiscale Modeling of Fracture 17 Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics 126 143 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3342 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Chen, Lei; Nguyen-Thanh, Nhon; Nguyen-Xuan, Hung; Rabczuk, Timon; Bordas, Stéphane Pierre Alain; Limbert, Georges Explicit finite deformation analysis of isogeometric membranes Explicit finite deformation analysis of isogeometric membranes 26 Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering 104 130 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3340 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Ghasemi, Hamid; Brighenti, Roberto; Zhuang, Xiaoying; Muthu, Jacob; Rabczuk, Timon Optimization of fiber distribution in fiber reinforced composite by using NURBS functions Optimization of fiber distribution in fiber reinforced composite by using NURBS functions 10 Computational Materials Science 463 473 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3304 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Ghasemi, Hamid; Brighenti, Roberto; Zhuang, Xiaoying; Muthu, Jacob; Rabczuk, Timon Sequential reliability based optimization of fiber content and dispersion in fiber reinforced composite by using NURBS finite elements Sequential reliability based optimization of fiber content and dispersion in fiber reinforced composite by using NURBS finite elements Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3341 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Ghasemi, Hamid; Rafiee, Roham; Zhuang, Xiaoying; Muthu, Jacob; Rabczuk, Timon Uncertainties propagation in metamodel-based probabilistic optimization of CNT/polymer composite structure using stochastic multi-scale modeling Uncertainties propagation in metamodel-based probabilistic optimization of CNT/polymer composite structure using stochastic multi-scale modeling 10 Computational Materials Science 295 305 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3303 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Ilyani Akmar, A.B.; Lahmer, Tom; Bordas, Stéphane Pierre Alain; Beex, L.A.A.; Rabczuk, Timon Uncertainty quantification of dry woven fabrics: A sensitivity analysis on material properties Uncertainty quantification of dry woven fabrics: A sensitivity analysis on material properties 16 Composite Structures 1 17 10.1016/j.compstruct.2014.04.014 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3333 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Jamshidian, M.; Rabczuk, Timon Phase field modelling of stressed grain growth: Analytical study and the effect of microstructural length scale Phase field modelling of stressed grain growth: Analytical study and the effect of microstructural length scale 12 Journal of Computational Physics 23 35 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3316 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Jia, Yue; Anitescu, Cosmin; Ghorashi, Seyed Shahram; Rabczuk, Timon; Dias-da-Costa, D. The overlap percentages ranged from 40% to 80% in increments of 10%. The new material properties of the fused metal were characterized using Weldware and their continuous cooling transformation curves. The convective and radiative heat transfer coefficients as well as the cooling time t8/5 were estimated using numerical formulations from relevant standards. The effects of the simulation geometry and mesh discretization were evaluated in terms of the factor F provided in Sysweld. Eventually, the parameters of Goldak's double ellipsoidal heat source model were determined for the welding simulation of overlapping beads on the plate and the simulated bead geometry, extent of the molten pool and the HAZ were compared with the macrographs of cross-sections of the experimental weldments. The results showed excellent matching, thus verifying this methodology for determination of welding heat source parameters. 6 Computational Materials Science 559 565 10.1016/j.commatsci.2012.11.029 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3338 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Luu, M.; Martinez-Rodrigo, M.D.; Zabel, Volkmar; Könke, Carsten H∞ optimization of fluid viscous dampers for reducing vibrations of high-speed railway bridges H∞ optimization of fluid viscous dampers for reducing vibrations of high-speed railway bridges 21 Journal of Sound and Vibration 2421 2442 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM) OPUS4-3344 Wissenschaftlicher Artikel Nanthakumar, S.S.; Lahmer, Tom; Rabczuk, Timon Detection of multiple flaws in piezoelectric structures using XFEM and level sets Detection of multiple flaws in piezoelectric structures using XFEM and level sets 14 Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering 98 112 Institut für Strukturmechanik (ISM)
