  abstract  = {The theme of this project is the colonial history of the natural rubber industry. It focuses on two species of tropical plants: Ficus elastica and Hevea brasiliensis. Geographically their native habitat is very distant from each other, but they connect by European influence through the exploitation of latex. The many forms and outcomes from this work manifest the attempt of the artist to create an association between a common household plant, the origin of its name, and the source of rubber. As a ghostly connective tissue, the latex surrounds reconstructed history, old prints, live plants, and drawings, accepting the material's capacity to both erase and preserve the past.},

  abstract  = {This research projects deals with the discoursivity of spatial production. By looking at contemporary residential development in the city of Istanbul, I will examine the reciprocity of the material production of space on one hand, and social discourses on the other, in order to make a contribution to how physical space can be used as a source of research in urban studies. In real estate marketing social discourses are used as a source of reference for place branding or identity design. Branding concepts therefore relate to how social groups imagine their position or future position in society, imaginaries that are continuously influenced and changed by social dynamics within the city but also from the outside. How such urban identities are formed and it what way they relate to the urban environment is crucial to a wide spectrum of social and cultural science. The constitutive role urban space attains has been described and analysed in much detail. Such scrutiny however has yet to be applied to the visual and communicative forms of engagement, the build environment partakes in the formation and change of social discourses.},

  abstract  = {Der Forschungsgegenstand dieser Arbeit basiert auf einer ph{\"a}nomenologischen Beobachtung internationaler fotografischer Positionen des Selbstportraits, welche seit den 1960er-Jahren verwandte Inhalte, gleichartige bild{\"a}sthetische Merkmale und {\"a}hnliche Prozesse im fotografischen Herstellungsprozess aufweisen. Gemeinsam haben die in dieser Arbeit besprochenen K{\"u}nstler*innen, dass sich ihre Bildwerdung am eigenen K{\"o}rper vollzieht und an einen durch Bewegung gekennzeichneten Handlungsablauf gekn{\"u}pft ist. Die jeweilige Bildsprache weist eine ephemere {\"A}sthetik aus, in welcher inhaltlich sowohl der physische als auch der philosophisch gemeinte Begriff des (Los-)lassens eine Rolle spielt. Die k{\"u}nstlerischen Positionen, die Gegenstand dieser Ph.D.-Arbeit sind, umfassen Arbeiten von Bas Jan Ader (1942 - 1975), Francesca Woodman (1958 - 1981), Bernhard (1937 - 2011) und Anna Blume (*1937), Antoine d'Agata (*1961) und Tom Pope (*1986).},
