  abstract  = {Die Diskussionen in der Politik und in der Gesellschaft {\"u}ber Klimawandel, globale Erw{\"a}rmung oder Nachhaltigkeit, die schon noch l{\"a}nger anh{\"a}lt, werden nie ein Ende finden, solange die Probleme, auf denen sie basiert, unl{\"o}sbar bleiben. Vorgeschlagene L{\"o}sungen werden meist nicht richtig umgesetzt. Im Zusammenhang mit dieser Problematik steigt aber das Verantwortungsgef{\"u}hl f{\"u}r bessere Zukunftsstrategien immer mehr. Die in den letzten Jahren vorgekommenen Umweltkatastrophen, wie im Golf von Mexiko (April 2010) oder im Fukushima (M{\"a}rz 2011) die noch aktuell sind, zeigen, dass der Prim{\"a}renergieeinsatz oder die Transportproblematik nicht mehr nur die Sorge der Entwicklungsl{\"a}nder, sondern auch der Industriel{\"a}nder ist. Die Bauwelt mit ihrem erheblichen Energiebedarf spielt bei der Festlegung der Zukunftsstrategien eine große Rolle. Vor allem sind die Forschungen nach umweltfreundlichen Materialien, der Recyclebarkeit der eingesetzten Baumaterialien oder dem vern{\"u}nftigen Nutzen der Naturressourcen die wichtigsten Schwerpunkte. In dieser Hinsicht bringt Lehm als Baumaterial viele Vorteile mit sich. Bei einem Artikel sagt der Lehmbauexperte Martin Rauch: "In heutiger Zeit und einem Kulturkreis, in dem Baugrund und Arbeitszeit unsere großen Kosten verursachen, findet der tradierte Lehmbau mit dem verbundenen großen Aufwand an menschlicher Arbeitszeit nur schwer seinen Platz. {\"U}ber die Art der Bauweise wird auch die Entscheidung gef{\"a}llt, wie und wo die Wertsch{\"o}pfung erfolgt und ob der Einsatz des Budgets einen gesellschaftlichen Nutzen mit sich bringt. Im Vergleich zu einem Sichtbetonhaus k{\"o}nnen bei einem Stampflehmhaus 40\% der Prim{\"a}renergie ein gespart und daf{\"u}r mehr lokale Arbeitsressourcen gebunden werden. Davon profitieren vor allem die lokalen Handwerker und mittelst{\"a}ndischen Betriebe" Anatolien ist der Ort, wo man immer noch die tiefsten Wurzeln der Baukultur menschlicher Geschichte findet. Diese Baukultur, die in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten fast verlorengegangen ist, ist die Lehmbaukultur. In dieser Hinsicht beabsichtigt dieser Entwurf die W{\"u}rde des Lehms in Anatolien wieder herzustellen und dadurch dessen Glaubw{\"u}rdigkeit zur{\"u}ckzubringen.},

August 2010 viel zu fr{\"u}h gestorben ist. Cornelia Vismann war von 2008 bis zu ihrem Tod Professorin f{\"u}r Geschichte und Theorie der Kulturtechniken an der Bauhaus-Universit{\"a}t Weimar. Sie hat dieser Professur ihr eigenes Profil verliehen, indem sie zum einen die Geschichte und Theorie des Rechts als eine Theorie und Geschichte von Kulturtechniken reformulierte, zum anderen aber auch die unhintergehbare rechtliche Relevanz - die Recht setzende Gewalt - von Kulturtechniken betonte und gezielt herausarbeitete. Dadurch hat sie der Sache und der Erforschung der Kulturtechniken eine unerh{\"o}rte Dringlichkeit gegeben, eine Dringlichkeit, die ihr Verh{\"a}ltnis zur wissenschaftlichen Forschung und Lehre {\"u}berhaupt widerspiegelt.},

  abstract  = {Patients and staff in hospitals are exposed to a complex sound environment with rather high noise levels. In intensive care units, the main noise sources are hospital staff on duty and medical equipment, which generates both operating noise and acoustic alarms. Although noise in most cases is produced during activities for the purpose of saving life, noise can induce significant changes in the depth and quality of sleep and negatively affect health in general. Results of a survey of hospital staff are presented as well as measurements in two German hospital wards: a standard two-bed room and a special Intermediate Care Unit (IMC-Unit), each in a different Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Sound pressure data were collected over a 48 hour period and converted into different levels (LAFeq, LAFmax, LAFmin, LAF 5\%), as well as a rating level LAr, which is used to take tonality and impulsiveness into account. An analysis of the survey and the measured data, together with a comparison of thresholds of national and international regulations and standards describe the acoustic situation and its likely noise effects on staff and patients.},

  abstract  = {Many researchers are working on developing robots into adequate partners, be it at the working place, be it at home or in leisure activities, or enabling elder persons to lead a self-determined, independent life. While quite some progress has been made in e.g. speech or emotion understanding, processing and expressing, the relations between humans and robots are usually only short-term. In order to build long-term, i.e. social relations, qualities like empathy, trust building, dependability, non-patronizing, and others will be required. But these are just terms and as such no adequate starting points to "program" these capacities even more how to avoid the problems and pitfalls in interactions between humans and robots. However, a rich source for doing this is available, unused until now for this purpose: artistic productions, namely literature, theater plays, not to forget operas, and films with their multitude of examples. Poets, writers, dramatists, screen-writers, etc. have studied for centuries the facets of interactions between persons, their dynamics, and the related snags. And since we wish for human-robot relations as master-servant relations - the human obviously being the master - the study of these relations will be prominent. A procedure is proposed, with four consecutive steps, namely Selection, Analysis, Categorization, and Integration. Only if we succeed in developing robots which are seen as servants we will be successful in supporting and helping humans through robots.},

  abstract  = {Stonecutters and Sutong Bridge have pushed the world record for main span length of cable-stayed bridges to over 1000m. The design of these bridges, both located in typhoon prone regions, is strongly influenced by wind effects during their erection. Rigorous wind tunnel test programmes have been devised and executed to determine the aerodynamic behaviour of the structures in the most critical erection conditions. Testing was augmented by analytical and numerical analyses to verify the safety of the structures throughout construction and to ensure that no serviceability problems would affect the erection process. This paper outlines the wind properties assumed for the bridge sites, the experimental test programme with some of its results, the dynamic properties of the bridges during free cantilevering erection and the assessment of their aerodynamic performance. Along the way, it discusses the similarities and some revealing differences between the two bridges in terms of their dynamic response to wind action.},

  abstract  = {The laser beam is a small, flexible and fast polishing tool. With laser radiation it is possible to finish many outlines or geometries on quartz glass surfaces in the shortest possible time. It's a fact that the temperature developing while polishing determines the reachable surface smoothing and, as a negative result, causes material tensions. To find out which parameters are important for the laser polishing process and the surface roughness respectively and to estimate material tensions, temperature simulations and extensive polishing experiments took place. During these experiments starting and machining parameters were changed and temperatures were measured contact-free.},

Their collective professional experience encompasses a wide array of building types including Fine Arts, Educational, Institutional, Commercial and Residential facilities. The firm has won numerous awards in Europe as well as in the United States. GRAFT was established in 1998 in Los Angeles by Lars Kr{\"u}ckeberg, Wolfram Putz and Thomas Willemeit and opened an office in Berlin in 2001. In 2003 GRAFT opened an office in Beijing with Gregor Hoheisel as partner for the asian market. In 2007 Alejandra Lillo became Partner for the office in Los Angeles. GRAFT was conceived as a 'Label' for Architecture, Urban Planning, Design, Music, and the "pursuit of happiness". Since the firm was established, it has been commissioned to design and manage a wide range of projects in multiple disciplines and locations. With the core of the firm's enterprises gravitating around the field of architecture and the built environment, GRAFT has always maintained an interest in crossing the boundaries between disciplines and "grafting" the creative potentials and methodologies of different realities. For more than five years she worked as a practising architect for architectural firms in England and Germany such as Bolles+Wilson, M{\"u}nster and Peter Kulka, K{\"o}ln. From 2001 until 2007 she held a research and teaching position at the Institute for History and Theory of Architecture at Wuppertal University. Currently she is completing her dissertation on the Dutch architectural firm OMA*AMO She writes as a freelance journalist for architectural magazines in Germany and Switzerland and has been publishing in magazines such as Archithese, Arch+, Bauwelt and Deutsche Bauzeitung.},

St{\"o}cklmayr promovierte an der Universit{\"a}t f{\"u}r angewandte Kunst Wien an der sie auch Architektur in den Meisterklassen Hans Hollein, Greg Lynn sowie Zaha Hadid studierte. In ihrer von Gabriele Werner betreuten und von der {\"O}sterreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften gef{\"o}rderten Dissertation mit dem Titel „Das Architekturbild im digitalen Paradigmenwechsel" untersuchte sie den Status des Bildes im digitalen Prozess des Architekturentwurfs. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong, focusing on researching and designing buildings in rural China. In 2010 he exhibited Rural Urban Ecology at the Venice Biennale 2010. He has curated, designed and contributed to several international exhibitions including: Utopia Now: Opening the Closed Area, a research project on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen border at the Venice Biennale 2008; Get it Louder, a touring exhibition in China; Airspace: What Skyline does London want; Hydan; Can Buildings Curate and has exhibited at the HK-SZ Biennale. Joshua was a local curator for the Manchester-Liverpool section of Shrinking Cities between 2003 and 2005. He has collaborated with Raoul Bunschoten, Chora, researching strategic urban projects and has worked with Diller + Scofidio in New York. Joshua has previously taught architecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, London Metropolitan University, Cambridge University and the Architectural Association. He was educated at Cambridge University and at the Bartlett School of Architecture. John Lin is an architect based in Hong Kong and a graduate of The Cooper Union in New York City. His experimental constructions have been published in FRAME magazine (2003) and exhibited in the Kolonihaven (Architecture Park) at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen (2004) and the Venice Biennale (2008). Current projects include the design of several school buildings in China. He has taught at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong and is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong.},

Silke {\"O}tsch received her doctoral degree at the Bauhaus-University Weimar and studied architecture in Weimar and Paris. She published books in the field of architecture theory with the title "Stripping las Vegas" (with K. Jaschke) and "{\"U}berw{\"a}ltigen und Schmeicheln", and articels in the review GAM and others, and published in the field of political economy, among others the book "Das Casino schließen" (together with T. Sauer and P. Wahl) on the financial crisis and "R{\"a}ume der Offshore-Welt" (together with Celia Di Pauli), which is a publication on concrete spaces of tax havens and offshore centres in Europe and their implications. Her main research interest is globalization and financial architecture.},

  abstract  = {Lara Schrijver is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the TU Delft. She is one of three program leaders for a new research program in the department of architecture, 'The Architectural Project and its Foundations'. Schrijver holds degrees in architecture from Princeton University and the TU Delft. She received her Ph.D. from the TU Eindhoven in 2005. Schrijver has taught design and theory courses, and contributed to conferences in the Netherlands as well as abroad. She was an editor for OASE, journal for architecture, for ten years, and was co-organizer of the 2006 conference 'The Projective Landscape'. Her current work revolves around the role of architecture in the city, and its responsibility in defining the public domain. Her first book, Radical Games, on the influence of the 1960s on contemporary discourse, is forthcoming in the spring of 2009.},

  abstract  = {Eymen Homsi has degrees in architecture from the Ohio State University and biology/botany from the University of Southern Colorado. He taught design and theory at the Ohio State University (1991-99), worked at the Atelier Jose Oubrerie (1991-1995), and was Director of Design at the Columbus Neighborhood Design Centre (1998-99), where he designed the Salvation Army Transitional Housing, Friends of the Homeless Dormitory, and other public projects. He established Studio Noni in Helsinki (2000-04) for experimental projects, speculative works, competitions. He was coordinator of Habitation Studio at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (2004-09). He returned to Istanbul in 2009 after an absence of thirty five years to teach studio at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts (2009-10). Currently he teaches studio at Istanbul Technical University, and theory at K{\"u}lt{\"u}r University. His research concerns the relationship between rites of worship in Islam and the space of the mosque.},

In Israel he taught at the Hebrew University and the University of the Negev, and then moved to the United States, where he was Professor of Philosophy at Temple University, and chaired its department from 1998-2004. He then was awarded the Dorothy F. Schmidt Eminent Scholar Chair in the Humanities at Florida Atlantic University, where he also directs the Center for Body, Mind, and Culture. His authored books include Surface and Depth (2002); Performing Live (2000); Practicing Philosophy: Pragmatism and the Philosophical Life (1997); Sous l'interpr{\´e}tation (1994), Pragmatist Aesthetics: Living Beauty, Rethinking Art (1992, 2nd edition 2000); T.S. Eliot and the Philosophy of Criticism (1988); and The Object of Criticism (1984). His most recent book, Body Consciousness: A Philosophy of Mindfulness and Somaesthetics was published by Cambridge University Press. It provides the most detailed formulation of his project of somaesthetics.},

  abstract  = {MAD is a Beijing-based architectural design studio. In their work, they are examining and developing a unique concept of futurism through current theoretical practice in architectural design, landscape design, and urban planning. In 2006, MAD was awarded the Architectural League Young Architects Forum Award. In the same year, MAD was shown at the 'MAD in China' exhibition in Venice during the Architecture Bienniale, and the 'MAD Under Construction' exhibition at the Tokyo Gallery in Beijing. MAD's conceptual proposal, Super Star - A mobile China Town was exhibited in the Uneternal City of the 11th Architecture Biennale in Venice. Ma Yansong received his Master of Architecture from the Yale University School of Architecture in 2002. Prior to founding MAD in 2004, Mr. Ma worked as a project designer with Zaha Hadid Architects and Eisenman Architects. He also taught architecture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. In 2008, one of his built works, Hongluo Clubhouse, was nominated as one of the 100 designs by the London Design Museum. He was also nominated as one of the 20 most influential young architects today by ICON.},

An der Akademie f{\"u}r angewandte Kunst in Wien war er von 1974 bis 1980 Assistent bei Hans Hollein und Johannes Spalt, 1985/86 Gastprofessor an derselben Hochschule. 1988/89 und 1993/94 war er Gastprofessor an der Harvard University in Cambridge/USA, 2004-07 Gastprofessor an der ETH Z{\"u}rich. Sein ungleichartiges architektonisches Werk umfasst Planungen, Wohn-, Schul- und Hotelbauten ebenso wie Interventionen in kleinem Maßstab und Ausstellungsgestaltungen. Seine Projekte haben starken Bezug zum Kontext und beinhalten bewusst die vorhandenen Widerspr{\"u}che. Ab den 1970er Jahren (»Architektur ist Hintergrund«) wurde Hermann Czech zum Protagonisten einer neuen, »stillen« Architektur, die »nur spricht, wenn sie gefragt wird«. Er ist Autor zahlreicher kritischer und theoretischer Publikationen zur Architektur. In seiner Theorie spielen die Begriffe Umbau und Manierismus eine zentrale Rolle.
