Bislang wurde das zeitgen{\"o}ssische architekturimmanente Konzept des K{\"o}rpers gr{\"o}ßtenteils selektiv und anhand wenig repr{\"a}sentativer Beispiele von der Kritik behandelt: Ein auf physiologische Gesichtspunkte reduzierter K{\"o}rper interagiert mit Bauten der klassischen Moderne oder neuen Medientechnologien. Eine umfassende Besch{\"a}ftigung mit theoretischen Konzepten des K{\"o}rpers und mit dem Fallbeispiel der zeitgen{\"o}ssischen Hotel- und Kasinoarchitektur in Las Vegas zeigt, dass der Begriff des K{\"o}rpers komplexer geworden ist, womit der Bezug zum K{\"o}rper weniger augenf{\"a}llig erscheint. Der Ansatz der Ph{\"a}nomenologie, Erkl{\"a}rungsmuster durch eine Hinwendung zum K{\"o}rper zu erhalten wird von verschiedenen Autoren in Frage gestellt. Wenn die Grenzen von K{\"o}rper bzw. Leib und Umwelt nicht mehr zu bestimmen sind, tauge der Begriff nicht als Letztbegr{\"u}ndung. Diese Kritik kann entkr{\"a}ftet werden, wenn auf das Modell der animate form der Philosophin Sheets-Johnstone zur{\"u}ckgegriffen wird. Dieses Konzept f{\"u}hrt {\"u}ber Merleau-Pontys K{\"o}rperbegriff hinaus, der Sheets-Johnstones Aussage nach abstrakt sei. Insbesondere eine Hinwendung zum taktil-kin{\"a}sthetischen K{\"o}rper liefert neue Perspektiven. Damit ist es sinnvoll, Architektur in ihrer Beziehung zum K{\"o}rper zu beurteilen, weil der K{\"o}rper definierbar und eingrenzbar ist. Anhand des Fallbeispiels der Hotel- und Kasinoarchitektur von Las Vegas kann aufzeigt werden, in welcher Weise sich Planer heute auf den K{\"o}rper beziehen. Architektur geht in einem Megamedium auf, umgesetzt mit unterschiedlichen Techniken der Umweltgestaltung. Sowohl die Quantit{\"a}t als auch die Qualit{\"a}t der eingesetzten Reize nimmt zu. Dabei werden vor allem Reize eingesetzt, die tendenziell unbewusst wahrgenommen werden. Neben der Abstimmung auf die Sinne und die physische Beschaffenheit wird die symbolische Pr{\"a}gung des K{\"o}rpers beachtet. W{\"u}nsche und Vorstellungen der Nutzer werden {\"u}ber Zielgruppenanalysen ermittelt und finden ihre Entsprechung in semiotischen Architekturelementen. Diese werden so gestaltet, dass der Nutzer den semiotischen Gehalt zugleich sinnlich erf{\"a}hrt. Dieses Konzept des K{\"o}rpers wird als ganzheitlicher K{\"o}rper bezeichnet. Aufschlussreich ist ein Vergleich mit Vorstellungen des K{\"o}rpers vorausgehender Phasen, so z.B. dem Modell, das sich aus Scott Brown, Venturi und Izenours Buch Learning from Las Vegas ableiten l{\"a}sst, und das sich ebenso aus Texten und Bauten von Zeitgenossen wie Lynch, Norberg-Schulz und Kahn herausarbeiten l{\"a}sst. {\"U}ber die Besch{\"a}ftigung der Architekturtheoretiker mit der Sinneswahrnehmung entsteht ein Bewusstsein f{\"u}r den Einfluss des Symbolischen, das eine subjektive, durch das soziale und kulturelle Umfeld gepr{\"a}gte Wahrnehmung hervorbringt. Der K{\"o}rper ist eingebettet in symbolische Systeme wie Konventionen und Traditionen, die sein Handeln bestimmen. Dahingegen beziehen sich Vertreter der klassischen Moderne haupts{\"a}chlich auf die physiologischen Eigenschaften des K{\"o}rpers, seine Abmessungen und Bewegungsabl{\"a}ufe, wie Texte, Bauten und Menschmodelle z.B. von Meyer, Neutra, Le Corbusier und Neufert zeigen. Es f{\"a}llt auf, dass in Texten {\"u}ber Architektur von Las Vegas h{\"a}ufig Begriffe vorkommen, die zugleich zentrale Termini der Ph{\"a}nomenologie sind, wie Atmosph{\"a}re und der englische Begriff experience. Es zeigt sich, dass sich die Bedeutungen der philosophischen Termini in der Architektur des Fallbeispiel widerspiegelt. Anders als die vorschnelle Etikettierung der Architekturstr{\"o}mung als „Erlebnisarchitektur" suggeriert, bezieht sich der Begriff experience auf eine Ausrichtung an der Erfahrung. Diese ist das Resultat der langfristigen Pr{\"a}gung einer konkreten Nutzergruppe durch den in der Umwelt agierenden und durch seine symbolische Pr{\"a}gung beeinflussten K{\"o}rper. Die Erfahrung impliziert das Erlebnis, als kurzfristige Interaktion von K{\"o}rper und Umwelt. Am Fallbeispiel kann außerdem gezeigt werden, dass Techniken zur Schaffung von Atmosph{\"a}ren eingesetzt werden. In Anlehnung an den Philosophen B{\"o}hme kennzeichnen sich Atmosph{\"a}ren durch eine besondere N{\"a}he von Architektur und K{\"o}rper. Die Tatsache, dass Architekten gezielt Atmosph{\"a}ren schaffen, die gemeinhin nicht der Str{\"o}mung der „Erlebnisarchitekur zugerechnet werden, weist darauf hin, dass sich das Leitbild des ganzheitlichen K{\"o}rpers in unterschiedlichen Kontexten findet. Im Gegensatz zu Thesen Eisenmans oder Jamesons, die eine Entfremdung von K{\"o}rper und Raum bzw. das Ende des anthropozentrischen Weltbilds feststellen, propagieren Planer wie Jerde die Herstellung von Architektur, die Nutzer und Umwelt in einer {\"u}bergeordneten Ganzheit vereint. Ganzheit kann aber trotz feinerer Abstimmung auf den K{\"o}rper nur grenzwertig erreicht werden, da Nutzer nicht vollst{\"a}ndig erfasst werden k{\"o}nnen, sich die Planungen auf bestimmte Zielgruppen beschr{\"a}nken und die Interessen von Planer und Nutzer verschieden sind.}, subject = {K{\"o}rper}, language = {de} } @inproceedings{Oestman1997, author = {{\"O}stman, L.}, title = {Knowledge Elicitation through a Pragmatic Inquiry}, doi = {10.25643/bauhaus-universitaet.454}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:gbv:wim2-20111215-4547}, year = {1997}, abstract = {This is a paper about knowledge in design and how to elicit knowledge from design processes. The paper is a preparation for an empirical study of interaction in the design process. Reasonings of three authors - Sch{\"o}n, Broadbent and Lundequist - on design processes is presented. They all have a pragmatic perspective in common, and regard the process as an activity without a definite form. Design is seen as an activity of creating models of forms and shapes, by addressing expert knowledge  in a dialogic way  to problematic situations. Due to the pragmatic approach I find the pragmatist Dewey´s understanding of knowledge and elecitation of knowledge appropiate for studying design processes. According to him it is possible to build up objectified descriptions of experiences, also of such, which are based on experiences of emotional and intuitive nature. There need not be a definite border, which separates tacit knowledge from explicit knowledge - when it comes to the question of the possibility of verbal descriptions. Tacit knowledge is possible to articulate within pragmatic thinking. The conclusion is, that it is possible to study the tacit knowledge of design processes, and get some qualitative insights useful for theory building. A study of design processes can look at three different forms of knowledge. It appears as a precognitive understanding of the design situation, as integrated in the design activity - seeing the situation as something known - and in the process of creating something new.}, subject = {Entwurf}, language = {en} } @article{EirinhevskyDikhnyakEirichevskyetal.1997, author = {{\^E}irinhevsky, V. Im Mittelpunkt dieser regionalwissenschaftlichen Forschungsarbeit stehen r{\"a}umliche Disparit{\"a}ten der Versorgungs- und Angebotssicherung sowie bisher kaum betrachtete r{\"a}umliche Strukturen und Interdependenzen der Pflegebed{\"u}rftigkeit und Pflegeleistungen. Hierzu wurden vom Autor mehrere regional differenzierte Datenerhebungen aller teilstation{\"a}ren und vollstation{\"a}ren pflegebed{\"u}rftigen Menschen und der Pflegeinfrastruktureinrichtungen im Freistaat Th{\"u}ringen durchgef{\"u}hrt.Durch die Integration explorativer Analysemethoden in die empirische Regionalforschung wird die Pflegelandschaft Th{\"u}ringens f{\"u}r den Zeitraum 1994 bis 2000 dokumentiert und anhand eines relationalen Indikatorensystems die Strukturen und r{\"a}umlichen Muster der Pflegebed{\"u}rftigkeit und -infrastruktur, soziodemographischen und raumstrukturellen Einflusskomponenten sowie pflegespezifische Interdependenzen exploriert und analysiert. Ein Ergebnis sind typologische Aussagen zum Alter, zur Pflegeart und -schwere oder Struktur der Pflegeleistungen in einer hochaufl{\"o}senden topologischen Differenzierung nach regionaler Herkunft pflegebed{\"u}rftiger Menschen. So hat die Einf{\"u}hrung der Pflegeversicherung die Situation der meisten pflegebed{\"u}rftigen Menschen in Th{\"u}ringen deutlich verbessert. Ein Ergebnis topologischer Analysen sind regionale (Versorgungs-) Disparit{\"a}ten, die zu nachgewiesenen Wanderungsbewegungen pflegebed{\"u}rftiger Menschen f{\"u}hren.So resultiert die noch nachweisbare Leistungs- bzw. Im Prozess von Handlung und Kommunikation ist der architektonische Raum das Medium, das r{\"a}umliche N{\"a}he von Individuen {\"u}ber alle Sinne und das Bewusstsein gleichzeitig intensiv erm{\"o}glicht. Der architektonische Raum als immersives Kommunikationsmedium erreicht im Zeitalter der >neuen< Medien eine neue Dimension, indem mehr und andere Wirklichkeitsalternativen der Kommunikation zur Verf{\"u}gung stehen. N. Luhmann folgend, wird die Architektur aus der Sicht der Form/Medium-Differenz systemtheoretisch als strukturierter M{\"o}glichkeitsraum betrachtet. Der Raum ist das Medium f{\"u}r Formen des architektonischen Raumes, in dem Architektur {\"u}berhaupt erst wirksam wird. Umgekehrt sind die Formen des architektonischen Raumes Medien f{\"u}r die Wahrnehmung einer Vielzahl von r{\"a}umlichen Wirklichkeiten. Eine Fassade aus Stein oder Glas ist gebaute Form und kann als Medium Information kommunizieren. Medien werden ihrer Bestimmung um so besser gerecht, je mehr sie sich der Aufmerksamkeit entziehen und wie transparente Fenster hinter der Oberfl{\"a}che der sinnlichen Wahrnehmung zur{\"u}cktreten. Als >unwahrnehmbares< Medium ist der architektonische Raum damit eine hintergr{\"u}ndige >Wirkungsmacht<, eine B{\"u}hne f{\"u}r die Entfaltung von Wirkung, Atmosph{\"a}re und Bewegung. Seine physische Wirklichkeit war schon immer durch virtuelle Wirklichkeiten oder Realit{\"a}ten entgrenzt, die durch Techniken und Technologien der Simulation als k{\"u}nstliche Welten wahrnehmbar und kommunizierbar werden. Dies kann an tradierten Beispielen der gotischen Kathedrale, dem Panorama, den panoptischen R{\"a}umen, dem Theater, Kino oder den kontinuierlichen R{\"a}umen von der Moderne bis heute aufgezeigt weren. Virtuelle R{\"a}ume gotischer Glasbilder oder barocker Decken- und Wandbilder im Medium des architektonischen Raumes sind uns gel{\"a}ufig. Die Immersion, das Eintauchen in diese virtuellen Wirklichkeitssp{\"a}ren l{\"o}st die Wahrnehmung der eigenen k{\"o}rperlichen Pr{\"a}senz in ihnen aus. Das Potential des virtuellen Raumes der Architektur besteht im Vergleich zu anderen virtuellen Realit{\"a}ten von Text, Bild oder digitalen Medien in seiner Gebundenheit an die physische, r{\"a}umliche Reizstruktur, der er die Eindringlichkeit und Komplexit{\"a}t seiner Wirkung verdankt. Es werden unterschiedliche Wechselwirkungen und gemeinsame Entwicklungen von zeitgen{\"o}ssischen Beispielen der Architektur mit den >neuen< Medien aufgezeigt. The uncertainty can be expressed by its stochastic parameters, including the mean, the standard deviation, and the spatial correlation length. These stochastic parameters are regarded as constant value in most of the former studies. The main aim of this thesis is to prove whether they are depth-dependent, and to evaluate the effect of this depth-dependent character on both the settlement and the infinite slope stability during rainwater infiltration. A stochastic one-dimensional settlement simulation is carried out using random finite element method with the von Wolffersdorff hypoplastic model, so as to evaluate the effect of stress level on the stochastic parameters of void ratio related parameters of sand. It is found that these stochastic parameters are both stress-dependent and depth-dependent. The non-stationary random field, considering the depth-dependent character of these stochastic parameters, can be generated through the distortion of the stationary random field. The one-dimensional settlement analysis is carried out to evaluation the effect of the depth-dependent character of the stochastic parameters of void ratio on the strain. It is found that the depth-dependent character has low effect on the strain. The deterministic analysis of infinite slope stability during rainwater infiltration is simulated. The transient seepage is carried out using finite difference method, while the steady state seepage is simulated using the analytical solution. The saturated hydraulic conductivity (ks) is taken as the only variable. The results show that the depth-dependent ks has a significant influence on the stability of the slope when the negative flux is high. Without considering the depth-dependent character, can overestimate the factor of safety of the slope. A slope can fail if the depth-dependent character is considered, while it is stable if the depth-dependent character is neglected. The failure time of the slope with a greater depth-dependent ks is earlier during transient infiltration. Meanwhile, the stochastic infinite slope stability analysis during infiltration, is also carried out to highlight the effect of the depth-dependent character of the stochastic parameters of ks. The results show that: the probability of failure is significantly increased if the depth-dependent character of mean is considered, while, it is moderately reduced if the depth-dependent character of the standard deviation is accounted. If the depth-dependent character of both the mean and standard deviation of ks is considered, the depth-dependent mean value plays a dominant influence on the results. Furthermore, the depth-dependent character of the spatial correlation length can slightly reduce the probability of failure.}, subject = {Bodenunruhe}, language = {en} } @article{ZhaoWeiFanetal., author = {Zhao, Jun-Hua and Wei, Ning and Fan, Z. and Jiang, Jin-Wu and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {Mechanical properties of three types of carbon allotropes}, series = {Nanotechnology}, journal = {Nanotechnology}, abstract = {Mechanical properties of three types of carbon allotropes}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhaoWangJiangetal., author = {Zhao, Jun-Hua and Wang, L. and Jiang, Jin-Wu and Wang, Z. and Guo, Wanlin and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {A comparative study of two molecular mechanics models based on harmonic potentials}, series = {Journal of Applied Physics}, journal = {Journal of Applied Physics}, abstract = {A comparative study of two molecular mechanics models based on harmonic potentials}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhaoLuZhangetal., author = {Zhao, Jun-Hua and Lu, Lixin and Zhang, Zhiliang and Guo, Wanlin and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {Continuum modeling of the cohesive energy for the interfaces between _lms, spheres, coats and substrates}, series = {Computational Materials Science}, journal = {Computational Materials Science}, pages = {432 -- 438}, abstract = {Continuum modeling of the cohesive energy for the interfaces between _lms, spheres, coats and substrates}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhaoLuRabczuk, author = {Zhao, Jun-Hua and Lu, Lixin and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {Binding energy and mechanical stability of single- and multi-walled carbon nanotube serpentines}, series = {The Journal of Chemical Physics}, journal = {The Journal of Chemical Physics}, doi = {10.1063/1.4878115}, abstract = {Binding energy and mechanical stability of single- and multi-walled carbon nanotube serpentines}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhaoKouJiangetal., author = {Zhao, Jun-Hua and Kou, Liangzhi and Jiang, Jin-Wu and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {Tension-induced phase transition of single-layer molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) at low temperatures}, series = {Nanotechnology}, journal = {Nanotechnology}, doi = {10.1088/0957-4484/25/29/295701}, abstract = {Tension-induced phase transition of single-layer molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) at low temperatures}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhaoJiangJiaetal., author = {Zhao, Jun-Hua and Jiang, Jin-Wu and Jia, Yue and Guo, Wanlin and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {A theoretical analysis of cohesive energy between carbon nanotubes, graphene and substrates}, series = {Carbon}, journal = {Carbon}, doi = {10.1016/j.carbon.2013.01.041}, pages = {108 -- 119}, abstract = {Explicit solutions for the cohesive energy between carbon nanotubes, graphene and substrates are obtained through continuum modeling of the van der Waals interaction between them. CNTs have attracted considerable interests in view of their unique mechanical, electronic, thermal, optical and structural properties, which enable them to have many potential applications. Carbon nanotube exists in several structure forms, from individual single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to carbon nanotube bundles and networks. The mechanical properties of SWCNTs and MWCNTs have been extensively studied by continuum modeling and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in the past decade since the properties could be important in the CNT-based devices. CNT bundles and networks feature outstanding mechanical performance and hierarchical structures and network topologies, which have been taken as a potential saving-energy material. In the synthesis of nanocomposites, the formation of the CNT bundles and networks is a challenge to remain in understanding how to measure and predict the properties of such large systems. Therefore, a mesoscale method such as a coarse-grained (CG) method should be developed to study the nanomechanical characterization of CNT bundles and networks formation. In this thesis, the main contributions can be written as follows: (1) Explicit solutions for the cohesive energy between carbon nanotubes, graphene and substrates are obtained through continuum modeling of the van der Waals interaction between them. (2) The CG potentials of SWCNTs are established by a molecular mechanics model. (3) The binding energy between two parallel and crossing SWCNTs and MWCNTs is obtained by continuum modeling of the van der Waals interaction between them. Crystalline and amorphous polymers are increasingly used in modern industry as tructural materials due to its important mechanical and physical properties. For crystalline polyethylene (PE), despite its importance and the studies of available MD simulations and continuum models, the link between molecular and continuum descriptions of its mechanical properties is still not well established. For amorphous polymers, the chain length and temperature effect on their elastic and elastic-plastic properties has been reported based on the united-atom (UA) and CG MD imulations in our previous work. However, the effect of the CL and temperature on the failure behavior is not understood well yet. Especially, the failure behavior under shear has been scarcely reported in previous work. Therefore, understanding the molecular origins of macroscopic fracture behavior such as fracture energy is a fundamental scientific challenge. In this thesis, the main contributions can be written as follows: (1) An analytical molecular mechanics model is developed to obtain the size-dependent elastic properties of crystalline PE. (2) We show that the two molecular mechanics models, the stick-spiral and the beam models, predict considerably different mechanical properties of materials based on energy equivalence. The difference between the two models is independent of the materials. (3) The tensile and shear failure behavior dependence on chain length and temperature in amorphous polymers are scrutinized using molecular dynamics simulations. Finally, the influence of polymer wrapped two neighbouring SWNTs' dispersion on their load transfer is investigated by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, in which the SWNTs' position, the polymer chain length and the temperature on the interaction force is systematically studied.}, subject = {Mehrskalenmodell}, language = {en} } @article{ZhaoLuRabczuk, author = {Zhao, Jiyun and Lu, Lixin and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {The tensile and shear failure behavior dependence on chain length and temperature in amorphous polymers}, series = {Computational Materials Science}, journal = {Computational Materials Science}, pages = {567 -- 572}, abstract = {The tensile and shear failure behavior dependence on chain length and temperature in amorphous polymers}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhaoJiangWangetal., author = {Zhao, Jiyun and Jiang, Jin-Wu and Wang, L. and Guo, Wanlin and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {Coarse-grained potentials of single-walled carbon nanotubes}, series = {Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids}, journal = {Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids}, abstract = {Coarse-grained potentials of single-walled carbon nanotubes}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhangRen, author = {Zhang, Yongzheng and Ren, Huilong}, title = {Implicit implementation of the nonlocal operator method: an open source code}, series = {Engineering with computers}, volume = {2022}, journal = {Engineering with computers}, publisher = {Springer}, address = {London}, doi = {10.1007/s00366-021-01537-x}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:gbv:wim2-20220216-45930}, pages = {1 -- 35}, abstract = {In this paper, we present an open-source code for the first-order and higher-order nonlocal operator method (NOM) including a detailed description of the implementation. Among nonlocal models, peridynamics (PD) has attracted a lot of attention as it allows the natural transition from continuum to discontinue and thus allows modeling of discrete cracks without the need to describe and track the crack topology, which has been a major obstacle in traditional discrete crack approaches. This is achieved by replacing the divergence of the Cauchy stress tensor through an integral over so-called bond forces, which account for the interaction of particles. A quasi-continuum approach is then used to calibrate the material parameters of the bond forces, i.e., equating the PD energy with the energy of a continuum. One major issue for the application of PD to general complex problems is that they are limited to fairly simple material behavior and pure mechanical problems based on explicit time integration. PD has been extended to other applications but losing simultaneously its simplicity and ease in modeling material failure. Furthermore, conventional PD suffers from instability and hourglass modes that require stabilization. It also requires the use of constant horizon sizes, which drastically reduces its computational efficiency. The latter issue was resolved by the so-called dual-horizon peridynamics (DH-PD) formulation and the introduction of the duality of horizons. Within the nonlocal operator method (NOM), the concept of nonlocality is further extended and can be considered a generalization of DH-PD. Combined with the energy functionals of various physical models, the nonlocal forms based on the dual-support concept can be derived. In addition, the variation of the energy functional allows implicit formulations of the nonlocal theory. While traditional integral equations are formulated in an integral domain, the dual-support approaches are based on dual integral domains. One prominent feature of NOM is its compatibility with variational and weighted residual methods. The NOM yields a direct numerical implementation based on the weighted residual method for many physical problems without the need for shape functions. Only the definition of the energy or boundary value problem is needed to drastically facilitate the implementation. The nonlocal operator plays an equivalent role to the derivatives of the shape functions in meshless methods and finite element methods (FEM). Based on the variational principle, the residual and the tangent stiffness matrix can be obtained with ease by a series of matrix multiplications. In addition, NOM can be used to derive many nonlocal models in strong form. The principal contributions of this dissertation are the implementation and application of NOM, and also the development of approaches for dealing with fractures within the NOM, mostly for dynamic fractures. The primary coverage and results of the dissertation are as follows: -The first/higher-order implicit NOM and explicit NOM, including a detailed description of the implementation, are presented. The NOM is based on so-called support, dual-support, nonlocal operators, and an operate energy functional ensuring stability. The nonlocal operator is a generalization of the conventional differential operators. Combining with the method of weighted residuals and variational principles, NOM establishes the residual and tangent stiffness matrix of operate energy functional through some simple matrix without the need of shape functions as in other classical computational methods such as FEM. NOM only requires the definition of the energy drastically simplifying its implementation. For the sake of conciseness, the implementation in this chapter is focused on linear elastic solids only, though the NOM can handle more complex nonlinear problems. An explicit nonlocal operator method for the dynamic analysis of elasticity solid problems is also presented. The explicit NOM avoids the calculation of the tangent stiffness matrix as in the implicit NOM model. The explicit scheme comprises the Verlet-velocity algorithm. The NOM can be very flexible and efficient for solving partial differential equations (PDEs). It's also quite easy for readers to use the NOM and extend it to solve other complicated physical phenomena described by one or a set of PDEs. Several numerical examples are presented to show the capabilities of this method. -A nonlocal operator method for the dynamic analysis of (thin) Kirchhoff plates is proposed. The nonlocal Hessian operator is derived from a second-order Taylor series expansion. NOM is higher-order continuous, which is exploited for thin plate analysis that requires \$C^1\$ continuity. The nonlocal dynamic governing formulation and operator energy functional for Kirchhoff plates are derived from a variational principle. The Verlet-velocity algorithm is used for time discretization. After confirming the accuracy of the nonlocal Hessian operator, several numerical examples are simulated by the nonlocal dynamic Kirchhoff plate formulation. -A nonlocal fracture modeling is developed and applied to the simulation of quasi-static and dynamic fractures using the NOM. The phase field's nonlocal weak and associated strong forms are derived from a variational principle. The NOM requires only the definition of energy. We present both a nonlocal implicit phase field model and a nonlocal explicit phase field model for fracture; the first approach is better suited for quasi-static fracture problems, while the key application of the latter one is dynamic fracture. To demonstrate the performance of the underlying approach, several benchmark examples for quasi-static and dynamic fracture are solved.}, subject = {Variationsprinzip}, language = {en} } @article{ZhangZhuangMuthuetal., author = {Zhang, Yancheng and Zhuang, Xiaoying and Muthu, Jacob and Mabrouki, Tarek and Fontaine, Micha{\"e}l and Gong, Yadong and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {Load transfer of graphene/carbon nanotube/polyethylene hybrid nanocomposite by molecular dynamics simulation}, series = {Composites Part B Engineering}, journal = {Composites Part B Engineering}, pages = {27 -- 33}, abstract = {Load transfer of graphene/carbon nanotube/polyethylene hybrid nanocomposite by molecular dynamics simulation}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhangZhaoJiaetal., author = {Zhang, Yancheng and Zhao, Jun-Hua and Jia, Yue and Mabrouki, Tarek and Gong, Yadong and Wei, Ning and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {An analytical solution on the interface debonding for large diameter carbon nanotube-reinforced composite with functionally graded variation interphase}, series = {Composite Structures}, journal = {Composite Structures}, pages = {261 -- 269}, abstract = {An analytical solution on the interface debonding for large diameter carbon nanotube-reinforced composite with functionally graded variation interphase}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} } @article{ZhangZhaoWeietal., author = {Zhang, Yancheng and Zhao, Jiyun and Wei, Ning and Jiang, Jin-Wu and Rabczuk, Timon}, title = {Effects of the dispersion of polymer wrapped two neighbouring single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) on nanoengineering load transfer}, series = {Composites Part B: Engineering}, journal = {Composites Part B: Engineering}, pages = {1714 -- 1721}, abstract = {Effects of the dispersion of polymer wrapped two neighbouring single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) on nanoengineering load transfer}, subject = {Angewandte Mathematik}, language = {en} }
