  abstract  = {This book on the architecture of Tirana contains findings of the interdisciplinary seminar "TIRANA. Architecture as Political Actor" at Bauhaus-Universit{\"a}t Weimar. In photographs, texts and diagrams it shows the approach to an unknown city that was explored following the ideas of the Actor Network Theory (ANT). Thus, the book gives an insight into scientific as well as artistic works, both mirroring the attempt to grasp the role of architecture within political processes in the 20th century and today. In this compilation of the architectural-political networks, an image of the city of Tirana emerges that gives an idea of specific built structures as well as of the architecture as political actor on a meta-level. In doing so, the book itself becomes an actor in the discussion of the relationship of architecture and politics in Albania and an example for the use of ANT as scientific-artistic tool for the research on architectural "things" in the context of a city.},

  abstract  = {Die niederl{\"a}ndische Architekturmoderne wird seit den 1980er Jahren nahezu durchgehend baulich rezipiert. Bisher unternommene uneinheitliche Kategorisierungen dieser Bauten als "Neo-Moderne" oder "Neu-Amsterdamer- Schule" werden dem komplexen Sachverhalt oftmals nicht in ausreichendem Maße gerecht. Die Arbeit soll daher einen Beitrag zum besseren Verst{\"a}ndnis der Rezeption des Neuen Bauens und der Amsterdamer Schule leisten. Anhand vier ausgew{\"a}hlter j{\"u}ngerer Wohnungsbauten in den Niederlanden untersucht sie konkret das Verh{\"a}ltnis zu den st{\"a}dtebaulichen, typologischen und formal- gestalterischen Vorbildern aus den 1920er und 1930er Jahren. Welche Gr{\"u}nde waren ausschlaggebend f{\"u}r die Wahl bestimmter Vorbilder? Auf welche Wohnanlagen greifen sie konkret zur{\"u}ck und mithilfe welcher Verfahren tun sie dies? Inwiefern unterscheidet sich die Vorgehensweise der ArchitektInnen von denen des Neuen Bauens oder der Amsterdamer Schule? Das Res{\"u}mee offenbart eine große Vielfalt an Rezeptionstechniken von zumeist mehreren historischen Vorbildern und damit die Schwierigkeit, das vorliegende Ph{\"a}nomen zu deuten. Vor allem aber scheint die Moderne mit ihrem Paradigma der Originalit{\"a}t von einem erneuten eklektischen Ansatz in der Architektur {\"u}berholt worden zu sein. In ihrem methodischen Ansatz verbindet die Thesis formal-gestalterische Analysen mit theoretischen Reflexionen und behandelt mit dem Thema der Referenzen eine zentrale Praxis im Entwurfsprozess von ArchitektInnen.},

  abstract  = {GRAFT is an architectural firm located in Los Angeles, Berlin, and Beijing. Their collective professional experience encompasses a wide array of building types including Fine Arts, Educational, Institutional, Commercial and Residential facilities. The firm has won numerous awards in Europe as well as in the United States. GRAFT was established in 1998 in Los Angeles by Lars Kr{\"u}ckeberg, Wolfram Putz and Thomas Willemeit and opened an office in Berlin in 2001. In 2003 GRAFT opened an office in Beijing with Gregor Hoheisel as partner for the asian market. In 2007 Alejandra Lillo became Partner for the office in Los Angeles. GRAFT was conceived as a 'Label' for Architecture, Urban Planning, Design, Music, and the "pursuit of happiness". Since the firm was established, it has been commissioned to design and manage a wide range of projects in multiple disciplines and locations. With the core of the firm's enterprises gravitating around the field of architecture and the built environment, GRAFT has always maintained an interest in crossing the boundaries between disciplines and "grafting" the creative potentials and methodologies of different realities.   abstract  = {Bettina Sch{\"u}rkamp completed her diploma in architecture at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart in 1995 and attended the graduate course „Histories and Theories of Architecture" at the Architectural Association in London. For more than five years she worked as a practising architect for architectural firms in England and Germany such as Bolles+Wilson, M{\"u}nster and Peter Kulka, K{\"o}ln. From 2001 until 2007 she held a research and teaching position at the Institute for History and Theory of Architecture at Wuppertal University.
