Gespielte Geschichten.

Played Stories. An Enquiry into Narrative Sturctures and Processes in Videogames

It focuses on the specific differences of narrative and narration in film, television and videogames. A structural analysis of the material is performed but apart from that the level of visual presentation and the inclusion of the player are taken into consideration. This leads to a theory of the perspective of observation and of the position of action ( 'point-of-view' and analogously 'point-of-action') of the player, thus describing essential components of the complex narrator-system of videogames. Elaborating on this, the thesis provides an instrument for the systematic description of videogames, based on criteria of narrativity.show moreshow less
