Metaphosphat – modifizierte Silikatbinder als Basis säurebeständiger Beschichtungsmaterialien

Metaphosphate modified silica-binder for acid resistant coating materials

Thereby theMortars based on hardened water glass as binding agent present a very good resistance in contact with strongly acid fluids. Insufficient, however, is the chemical resistance in contact with alkaline to weakly acid fluids. Aim of the investigations is an improvement of the water resistance of sodium silicate binders by specific chemical modifications through various metaphosphates. Thereby the causes of the binder specific properties are defined by a systematic characterization of the composition and of the structure of the binders. A modification of the sodium silicate solution by sodium trimetaphosphate produces an in-crease of the condensation degree and an improved mechanical resistance of the solidified sodium silicate binder. The water resistance of sodium silicate mortars modified by sodium trimetaphosphate is increased by the reactive binding of the basicity of the sodium silicate solution during the reduction of the metaphosphate structure. The good resistance in con-tact with highly concentrated sulphuric acid is kept nearly unchanged. A modification of the sodium silicate solution by aluminium tetrametaphosphate produces due to the reaction of both components the formation of an aluminosilicate network. The aluminosilicate network of the sodium silicate binder modified by aluminium tetrameta-phosphate also remains resistant in a strongly alkaline sodium hydroxide solution. The good resistance of the binder in contact with highly concentrated sulphuric acid is main-tained despite the aluminate in the binder network.show moreshow less
